Environmental Studies
Welcome back to all the pupils and a very warm welcome to all those new children beginning in Primary 7, you are very welcome.
This term we will be beginnning with learning about the Olympics, both ancient and modern. After this in September we will be moving on to the Victorians. In this topic we will be studying Queen Victoria, Victorian schools and the Industrial Revolution particularly. Children are encouraged to visit the library to do research on our topic as well as researching at home in books or on the computer. We advise parents to monitor the sites children visit ( The BBC Schools website is particularly worth a visit! ).
LANGUAGE
We are working very well within our reading groups. We practise our reading three times a week, and we visit the library every Tuesday with Ms. Hay. We have a week to read our new book, and we write a book review on books we read.
Spelling homework is given each Tuesday and collected on Friday.
Children practise their spellings using the Look, Cover, Say, Trace, Write, Check method each evening. Dictation is on a Friday.
Our formal Writing lesson is on a Tuesday. Children will get some of their spellings from the writing they do in this lesson.
Maths
Maths takes place four times a week. We get homework each week, usually on a Monday and Thursday. Every maths lesson starts with a mental maths 'warm up' . This helps us to do maths problems in our heads as quick as we can.
PE
Our PE days are Tuesdays ( with Ms. Hay ), and Wednesdays. Children will need to ensure they have their proper school P.E. kit in on these
days. Our P.E. kits should include a separate pair of shorts, gym shoes and a clean plain tee shirt.
P7
have lots of responsibilities this year.
JRSO
(
Kevin and Colette are our JRSO’s. They will be looking out for pupil’s safety
outside of the school.
Eco
Warriors.
Mashrufa and Chelsea are our Eco Warriors. They will be ensuring we are doing our best to
make our environment a cleaner and greener place. Rachel and Nikita will be representing the young children in Primary 1, helping explain issues to them and convey any ideas from the younger children to the committee.

Pupil
Council.
Representing the class this year are Lisa and Navison. They will be the
voice of each class member and will take note of any ideas or concerns
the class may have and convey these to the committee and staff
representative.
