Welcome to St Joseph's Primary School

Mrs McFarlane and Primary 3 /4  2008/2009

 Reading

We read our reading books in class.  We use our reading books to help us in our language work. We read fiction and information texts. We also visit the school library every Thursday where we can chose a book to take home to read.

We know we can visit Sighthill library with our families to borrow even more books to read at home.

Spelling

We take words from our writing and use our 'have a go' boards to practise spellings. We use Look, Say, Trace, Cover,  Write, Check to help us with new words.  We have a Dictation on a Friday.

Writing

We have a writing lesson every Tuesday where we look at our writing targets and use our planning pages to help us. This term we have been working on Imaginative writing and Personal writing.

Maths

We have Maths lessons on Monday,Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We are arranged in groups for Maths. We are given homework twice a week in Maths it is usually just like the work we do in class.  The Primary 3's have been working on money, numbers to 100 and Fractions. The Primary 4's have been working on their 2,3,4,5,and 10 times table. We use the smartboard in Maths to work on websites that have some Maths activities on them like;  www.teachingtime.co.uk or www.teachingideas.co.uk   www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/maths/measures.htm.

Science

In Science we have been studying materials and how they change. We are now moving onto work on forces.

Environmental Studies/Art

Our topic this term is The Romans. We have already found out lots of interesting facts about them from the Internet , Television programmes and Information books. We have been looking at Roman Mosaics and making our own. We are looking at the people who lived in Britain before the Romans came. Then we have been contrasting Roman houses with the Britons houses.

PE/Drama/Music

We have PE on a Monday with our teacher and go to Dalry pool for swimming lessons every Thursday. We have been able to use the Astroturf as the weather has been great. We are learning the rules of Benchball and other team games.  Then we will be moving onto some dance. At Swimming we have 2 star swimmers every week.

The Active schools coordinator has organised a junior jogging club we were able to put our names down.

We had a visit from Frances Baker a Drama specialist where we worked on Egyptians with her. It was fantastic.

ICT

We are lucky enough to be involved in Editing our own film with the help of Scottish Screen. We also use ICT in our topic work and our Maths.

Class Agreement

We have a class agreement if someone doesn't stick to the class agreement then they lose Goldentime. We don't like to lose Goldentime as we enjoy a chance to play and construct together. As well as listening to High School Musical or any other of our favourite songs!
