Welcome back to primary 2.
Primary 2's are going to be very busy from now until Easter as we have lots of work to be doing.
Reading: Please remember to practise your reading every night. Everyone needs to practise their Oxford Reading Tree book every night. Some children may choose to bring home a library book on Wednesdays, which they can read as they please.
Writing: We have a writing lesson every Thursday when we try our best to achieve the targets set. This term our targets are to write sentences using capital letters, full stops and joining words.
Language: On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays we are following the Achievement in Literacy programme. Each week we have been using the magnetic boards to segment and blend sounds to make words. Each week we learn some new tricky words which we practice for homework, and then try to remember in class.
Please remember to practise your new tricky words every night.
Maths: We have Maths lessons every day of the week which we begin with some mental maths. On Thursdays we develop our problem solving skills. We are very busy this term counting to 100 in 1's, 2's, 5's and 10's. We are learning to count using money and later this term we will learn about halves and quarters. We are also practising how to tell the time. We enjoy using the smartboard to make maths interactive and FUN!
Environmental Studies: Our topic for this term is Scottish Foods and Traditions. It would be great if you could look out for any Scottish Foods that are in your kitchen or that you find while doing the shopping.
In Science this term we will be learning about living things and the processes of life. This will be a great topic for the children and will encourage them to look at different flowers and minibeasts.
Expressive Arts.
P.E. - We have gym on Mondays and Tuesdays and should wear gym shoes, a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. This term we will be doing gymnastics.
Please remember to bring in your gym kit on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Music: We are taught music by Mrs Goodwin on Thursdays and are learning some Scottish songs to fit in with our new topic.
Art: This term we will be doing lots of exciting art work which will be linked in with our science and Scottish topics.
