    Primary 4's Term I

  Newsletter

We have now begun the first term of the year, and have lots to do in P4 now until October! We hope you will be able to support us in this term.

   Language:

This term we will be writing stories each Monday, concentrating on the setting in our story and how to describe a character. We will also be focusing on writing interesting sentences starting with a capital letter and ending with a full stop. Some pupils will be adding some more punctuation to improve their weiting even further.

We should be reading for 20 minutes each evening in P4.

Each week children will be given a writing target for their next story. These targets will include punctation , grammar and including exciting and new words. Handwriting lessons are also taught  each week.

Spelling:

Spelling lessons shall be carried out within the class. The spelling words will be from the pupils own writing jotter. They will also be given words from Mr. Wilson. Pupils should practise their Look, Say, Cover, Write, Checks each night.

P.E.

Physical education lessons are with Mr Wilson. Mr Wilson takes P.E. every Friday. P4 sometimes go to the gym hall for some extra PE on other days. Pupils should have full gym kit in school from Monday to Friday. This consists of gym shoes, t-shirt and shorts. No tracksuits or outdoor trainers. P4 are going swimming this year with Mrs Ross.

Environmental Studies

Our  history theme for this term is The Ancient Egyptians. Children are once again strongly encouraged to research this area at home, on-line if possible. I recommend google or the BBC website. Even library trips would be particularly beneficial. Pupils are more than welcome to bring in information they've found.

Mathematics

This year most pupils in Primary 4 will have Mr. Wilson for Maths. They will be working towards level B or C. Some pupils will be in Mrs Robertson's class for extra support.

Children will receive homework twice a week. Children should always be practising their tables and number bonds ( adding two numbers together to give any number up to 10, 20(for WTB) 50 or 100 (for WTC).

Expressive Arts

This year Primary three will be taught Art, PE, Drama, and Music each week. Mrs Goodwin will be teaching music this term. The children will also have circle time once a week. Mrs Allenby will teach Art alongside Mr. Wilson.

I.C.T.  Information Communication Technology.

This year Information Communication Technology will be taught once a week. The children will be using Apple Mac and PC lap-tops. They will also be using the smartboard.

If children have access to a computer at home they could use them to make small projects or story books, related to our Egyptian topic. Pupils should practice typing skills at home.
